For two whole seasons Ferrari has been dry: no wins in 2020 and 2021. Third place in the constructors' final standings disguised the fact that Ferrari were miles away from Mercedes and Red Bull last year. Yet that third place also gave the Italians hope and a sense of being on the right track.

Rest

The iconic brand's focus has been on 2022 all season. With the rule changes, Ferrari hopes to get closer to the two leading teams, although the Italians realise that a lot has to happen for this to happen. Team boss Mattia Binotto is happy with the third place despite a difficult and non-competitive year, he told the official Formula 1 website.

He thinks that the result will give Ferrari some rest during the winter months. That is good, because another difficult year awaits. Binotto calls 2022 a completely new challenge. A very difficult challenge even. So last season came at just the right time. "Finishing third is somehow important for serenity and showing the team efforts done so far," the Ferrari boss concluded to the site.

No final goal

Ferrari trumped McLaren this year, although that team did win one race (in Italy). And now they want more. Ferrari would not be Ferrari if it set high targets, even though the gap to Mercedes and Red Bull seems considerable. "P3 is not final objective," Binotto says combatively.
