Australia, Singapore, Canada and Japan. After two years of absence due to the coronavirus pandemic, these locations return on the Formula 1 calendar in 2022. So finally there will be a 'normal' schedule again, without double races (like last year in Austria).

The plan

At least, that is the plan. With the Omicron-variant currently circulating worldwide, it is again uncertain whether it will be possible to drive all planned races. In principle, a record number of 23 Grands Prix have been scheduled, but it probably remains to be seen whether countries like Australia and Japan will allow F1 to travel without quarantine.

Formula One CEO Stefano Domenicali tells Germany's Sport1 to take into account that the 2022 calendar will still undergo changes. "We must not underestimate the coronavirus pandemic. In 2022 we may also have to change the calendar again."

Two races in the US

In Europe, the races are most likely to be completed on schedule. The Italian also hopes that the two Grands Prix in the United States can be held. For the first time, Formula 1 will race in Miami. " The USA is important for us and we are working hard to make Miami a success in 2022", said Domenicali.

For Formula 1, the Far East is also very important. Domenicali refers to Guanyu Zhou, the first Chinese driver in Formula 1. The Italian sees that this increases interest in the highest class of motorsport in China and the region.

Caught in the crossfire

Coronavirus has significantly thrown F1's plans into disarray over the past two years. In 2020 there was an adjusted calendar with 17 races in the end. Last year 22 races were completed, but again there were many changes during the year.
