Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton did a great job of racing last year. Both men did not give up, so the decision in the world championship only fell in the last race. The question therefore is: how can we place this battle in the history of Formula 1?

The motor racing class has a rich history, in which several drivers tried to make life difficult for each other. The battle between Alain Prost and Ayrton Senna is still a topic of conversation, while the fight between James Hunt and Niki Lauda is also often remembered by motorsport fans. Verstappen and Hamilton now seem to fit into that picture perfectly.

Battle between Hamilton and Verstappen in perspective

The Dutchman showed Red Bull Racing this season that he has the potential to challenge for the world title in the coming years. Hamilton was a formidable opponent last season, but he still managed to secure the world championship. In 2022 little seems to change. Although teams like Ferrari and McLaren might compete, Hamilton and Verstappen are the favourites again.
