The F1 test is over: this is the surprise fastest of the day!

The Haas team was certainly not able to impress in 2021. Mick Schumacher and Nikita Mazepin were almost always on the back row of the grid. Not even a single point was given to them. In short, a season to quickly forget.

All the more remarkable is the way the American team manifested itself on the very last day we could see Formula 1 cars at work in 2021. During the final test at the Abu Dhabi circuit, Haas recorded the fastest time of the day. Robert Shwartzman finished with a lap time of 1.25.348, almost half a second quicker than Lando Norris in a McLaren.

A small note is necessary though. Haas was the only team to use the 2021 car on the Wednesday of this test. Only young drivers without much F1 experience were allowed to drive these cars. The current Formula One drivers - including Norris - drove modified 2019 cars, and their attention was entirely on testing Pirelli's new tyres.

Experience

Also in action were George Russell (in the Mercedes), Sebastian Vettel, Pierre Gasly, Carlos Sainz, Sergio Perez, Fernando Alonso and Guanyu Zhou. The latter is also a young driver, but he drove the 2019 Alfa Romeo.
