Ecclestone's personal reason why he is happy with Hamilton's loss

Former F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone already indicated that he doesn't feel sorry for Lewis Hamilton and that the seven-time world champion can't complain about the course of the last race. The 91-year-old Briton added another personal reason why he's glad Hamilton didn't win.

Ecclestone wants to maintain Schumacher's record

The compatriots clashed frequently in 2020, with a fierce media discussion about the black lives matter movement which Hamilton explicitly supported. This feud between Ecclestone and Hamilton is not the reason why he did not grant Hamilton the title in 2021. The reason is that Ecclestone doesn't want Michael Schumacher's record to be broken.

Talking to Sky News the former F1 boss already said that he thought Hamilton had nothing to complain about because the Mercedes driver got away without a penalty at the beginning of the race. The Brit now continues his argument and explains why he was even more pleased that Max Verstappen won the race and Hamilton did not take his eighth title.

Ecclestone gives personal reason

"I personally was happy that Lewis didn't win an eighth championship because the seven-championship [co-record] is held by Michael Schumacher." Ecclestone hopes the German's record will not be broken. 

When Ecclestone gets suggested that records exist to be broken, the Brit responds wittily, "Well let's see if anyone can break it." With Hamilton equalling the record in 2020, Ecclestone remarkably seems to have no problem.
