Hamilton reacts to the chaos: "Incredibly tough"

Lewis Hamilton won a chaotic race that ebbed and flowed throughout. The British driver is now level with his World Championship rival Max Verstappen with one race remaining.

Tough race

In the post-race interviews, Hamilton was asked by David Coulthard if it was one of the toughest races of his season. Hamilton now has 103 wins in his career, and he explained how he had to use all his experience against Verstappen.

"I've been racing here a long time but that was incredibly tough. I was trying to be sensible but tough as well, all my experience over the years, keeping my car on the track and staying clear. We've persevered as a team and we've had so much thrown at us in the second half of the season," Hamilton explained.

Hamilton and Verstappen touched once again. Verstappen tried to let Hamilton overtake because Red Bull thought a penalty was on the way for an incident earlier in the race. Hamilton explains what happened from his point of view.

"I didn't understand why he hit the brakes heavily, I ran into the back of him. He moved on, so I didn't understand. I had a message afterwards that he was going to let us past so it was a bit confusing. They've got some raw pace, they've been quick and it was hard to overtake. Valtteri did well to get the points today. It's been an amazing event," Hamilton added.
