The title fight between Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton is still in full swing, but within a few weeks we'll know who the 2021 world champion is. The Race examined previous duels to come to the conclusion that the leader was more often than not in a better position.

Verstappen currently has a lead of eight points, but the seven-time world champion still has a chance. Still, a title fight with so little points difference does not happen often. Between 1990 and 2020, there were seventeen times when there was no world champion in the final two races. Since the introduction of the 25 points for a victory in 2010 the lead has never been so small.

Verstappen in good shape

Historically, Verstappen is in a good position. Even if the Red Bull Racing car is slower in Saudi Arabia and Abu Dhabi, the Dutchman is the only driver who can win the championship in Saudi Arabia. The Mercedes are stronger on certain circuits and in certain circumstances, but so are the Red Bull cars. Both drivers are performing extremely well, so it won't be up to them. This title fight could go on until the end, unless the Limburger becomes world champion this weekend.
