Villeneuve: Williams focused on making money and not Formula 1 success

Williams' last World Champion Jacques Villeneuve says his former team is focused on profits rather than results. The Canadian believes the current period of bad results is due to the team putting a higher priority on corporate occasions.

"Williams is no longer a racing team. It's a public entity that must report at the end of the year and satisfy its president and managing director," Villeneuve told Le Journal de Montreal.

"The company generated a profit of $16 million in 2018, so it's doing well. But if the company made so much money, it's because it didn't spend enough on its racing team."

The revenue Williams' picked up from 2018 is based on their prize money from the 2017 season. The real number will be much lower as the British team achieved just seven race points last year.
