Haas lose appeal against Grosjean Monza disqualification

Haas have lost their appeal to have Romain Grosjean re-instated to the Italian GP results as the FIA upheld the stewards decision that the floor on the Frenchman’s car was illegal.

It was Haas’ main rivals in the Constructors’ Championship, Renault, who lodged the appeal against Haas after Grosjean finished in sixth place and was set to pick up eight points, which would have sent Haas above the French team in the standings.

Before the summer break, the FIA altered rules on the floors of the cars, which rendered Haas’ floor illegal as it had a radius at each front corner of the reference plane of over 50mm.

Haas appealed on the basis that they did not have enough time to modify their car to the rules suitably, so should be given more time to make the necessary changes.

Haas boss Gunther Steiner obviously felt let down by the decision but vowed to continue fighting for the final two races of the season.

"Obviously we are disappointed not to have won our appeal," he said. "We simply move forward and look to the final two races of the year to continue to fight on track, earn more points, and conclude our strongest season to-date in Formula 1."
