Toro Rosso to give Gelael FP1-outing in USA

Toro Rosso will be handing Sean Gelael his first practice run in an F1 car in 2018 this weekend, as the Indonesian will be taking over one of the cars during FP1 this Friday in Austin.

Gelael did compete in two test runs for Toro Rosso this year, as he's done four days in total of testing at Barcelona and at the Hungaroring. He hasn't done a practice run yet though, which will make this Friday in Austin a special occasion for him.

Last season, the now 21-year-old also got four practice runs at Toro Rosso at the end of the season.

He currently is 15th in the Formula 2 standings in his third year in the sport, so it doesn't look like he's the next big thing in motorsports, but it will be interesting to see how he gets on at the Circuit of the Americas this weekend.

"I am super happy and excited to get things rolling again," Gelael communicated on his social media.

"I did FP1 in Austin last year so it's a track that I know, even though it was a bit damp last year.

"The last time I was in the car was for the Budapest test, so I'm looking forward to working with the team again, hopefully they're excited as well."

Other F2 drivers that will be in action during FP1 on Friday are Nicholas Latifi for Force India and Lando Norris for McLaren.
