Williams will buy 2019 gearbox from Mercedes

Next season, Williams will be racing with a Mercedes gearbox as signals continue to grow stronger that they will become a Mercedes ‘b’ team. Williams are struggling this season, lying bottom of the constructors' championship picking up just four points.

This deal could be the first sign of a Williams resurgence as the British team look to bounce back in 2019. If a ‘b’ team deal was struck between the two, their relationship will be very similar to Sauber/Ferrari and Toro Rosso/Red Bull.

The Williams car was fitted with a new front wing that performed exactly how the engineers wanted it to in Germany. Sergey Sirotkin started from 12th place, their best result for a long time. They are anticipating another upgrade to come following the summer break in Belgium.

Starting from next season, the Williams car will carry the power unit, gearbox and rear suspension. Williams need Mercedes more than Mercedes need them, but it will benefit both companies in the long run. Will it happen? Let us know what you think in the comments!
