Hamilton on win: "Best French GP I've ever had"

Lewis Hamilton is thrilled with his win in the first French Grand Prix in ten years, as the Brit thought it was a great day for England, with the national football team winning on the World Cup as well.

Hamilton dominated the whole weekend and never really looked in doubt for the win in Le Castellet, but that doesn't mean that he wasn't happy with it.

"This is a great day, I enjoyed the race," he told Sky Sports F1.

"It's the best French GP I've ever had."

When asked whether he was banking on him being in the lead of the title race again after today's race, Hamilton denied.

"I hadn't thought about [leading the championship], but that's where I want to be.

"I feel very grateful for a solid weekend.

"I've been with my guys for six years now, and they're continually pushing the boundaries."

Later, Hamilton added to his previous comments, which he made only moments after getting out of his car.

"The start was the closest [to needing to look in his mirrors] and then after that fortunately was very comfortable with the balance.

"Max had really good pace, but fortunately I was able to eek out a little bit more when needed and maintain the gap when needed.

"It got to something like 4.5 seconds and I kept it there."
