"Boring races make changes necessary" says Fernley

Bob Fernley believes F1 have made the correct call in agreeing to technical changes for 2019’s campaign.

Fernley, Force India’s Deputy Team Principal agrees with the decision to include technical changes that help with overtaking next season.

Next season, the teams will run simpler front and rear wings with differences to the brake ducts and bargeboards, also.

The changes are being put in to hopefully assist overtaking and therefore make the sport a bit more exciting.

The last two races have been widely criticised for being too ‘boring’, most noticeably by Mercedes driver, Lewis Hamilton.

“I think it’s very important to get (a budget cap), and I think it’s also important that the step we took in voting in the regulation change for next year has proven to be correct as that steppingstone to 2021,” Fernley said to RACER.

“To try and do it all in one go is difficult.

“We make mistakes – even next year there will be mistakes, but it’s much better to make a few smaller ones and then get the package right from 2021 and learn from it.”
