Sainz predicts Monaco madness on Saturday

Carlos Sainz believes qualifying for the Monaco Grand Prix will be "madness". Traditionally, the rush for all of the drivers to get out and set times unimpeded can cause many headaches for the teams, there is always some blocking going on which can lead to a very interesting hour.

Sainz finished a strong seventh during the Spanish Grand Prix, thanks to the resurfaced track and Pirelli rubber, track records were repeatedly smashed. He expects more of the same this weekend with the debut of the hypersoft tyre.

"It is quite impressive, that tyre, I must say," he said.

"It gives easily a second per lap, and we're at Barcelona where the last sector normally you arrive with the tyre quite on the limit.

"This tyre around Monaco could be something special. We will see very quick laptimes if that is the case. I would be prepared to see lap records in Monaco again."

When it comes to qualifying however, Sainz predicted that we would see a chaotic rush on the streets of Monte Carlo.

"Absolutely madness. It will be crazy," he added.

"Already last year with the new cars it was something incredible, and this year, two steps softer compound and the tyre that for me is the best tyre Pirelli has done in a lot of years, it's going to be crazy."
