Williams has confirmed the signing of Robert Kubica for the 2019 season, teaming up with British driver George Russell. Kubica makes his permanent return to the sport after suffering a major injury in a 2011 rally crash. The 33-year-old has entered 76 previous Grands Prix and won the 2008 Canadian Grand Prix.

Deputy team principal Claire Williams says she is "really excited to see what he can do." She describes him as a "real pusher" as she hopes to lift Williams back up the constructor's championship next season.

Kubica's work and determination to get back into F1 produces one of F1's greatest stories of all time. In February 2011, Kubica entered a rally in Italy but crashed when his car hit a roadside barrier. The barrier ended up going through his car and Kubica was left with severe injuries.

His right arm is still badly damaged and he is unable to use the steering wheel forcing him to adapt his driving style. During this season, he has featured in a few practice sessions to complete his test and development role.

In 2017, he tested for Renault but missed out on the opportunity to sign. His return to the F1 grid will warm the hearts of many fans across the world.
